English 8: English 8C

Instructor: Ms. Hellewell

This course is designed to teach methods and best practices in the Language Arts curriculum and to build knowledge of the California Language Arts Framework. Students will develop reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills to become life-long critical thinkers and readers. The format of the course will include lectures, discussions, presentations, videos, and cooperative learning activities. Course aligns with the Content Standards that can be linked to below.

Class Announcements

Independent Reading

English 8C will be working in Book Clubs this year to meet their weekly reading requirement. Each day, students should be reading 30 minutes nightly. If they do not have their Book Club book, or are in between books, or are finished with that weeks required progress, students should be reading a grade level book/magazine of their choice in ENGLISH.

Students will be keeping a quarterly reading log in order to keep track of their progress, as well as completing weekly Book Club assignments.

Classroom Wish List

The following is a list of items we could ALWAYS use in my classroom:

kleenex
hand sanitizer
washable markers/colored pencils
post it notes of all sizes
composition books
disinfectant cleaning wipes
In addition, this class will be having monthly raffles as an incentive for attendance and work habits. If you can donate gift cards/school supplies/other treats for our monthly raffles, that would be a GREAT help!
